Why may 1 labor day

May 1 labor day

May 1 is celebrated as Labor Day in many countries around the world, including in some parts of Europe, Asia, and South America. The origins of May 1 as Labor Day date back to the late 19th century when labor movements in various countries started campaigning for an eight-hour workday and better working conditions.

The idea of a day to recognize and celebrate workers' rights and achievements was first proposed in the United States in the 1880s. However, the government and many employers were opposed to the idea and did not recognize the day as a national holiday. In 1890, the International Socialist Congress declared May 1 as International Workers' Day in memory of the Haymarket affair, which was a violent confrontation between police and workers in Chicago, USA, that occurred in 1886.

Since then, May 1 has been celebrated as Labor Day in many countries as a way to recognize the struggles and contributions of workers and to promote their rights and welfare. The holiday is often marked by protests, rallies, and other events that draw attention to workers' issues and demands for better working conditions, fair wages, and social protections.
