Celebrating International Women's Day

In 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay, and voting rights. In 1910, a proposal was made at the International Women's Conference in Copenhagen to create an International Women's Day to promote equal rights for women. The idea was met with unanimous approval, and the first International Women's Day was celebrated in 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.

Since then, International Women's Day has grown into a global celebration of women's achievements and a call to action for gender equality. It is recognized in countries around the world, and the day is marked by rallies, marches, and other events.

Despite progress in recent years, there is still much work to be done to achieve gender parity. Women continue to face discrimination and barriers in the workplace, including unequal pay, lack of opportunities for advancement, and harassment. Women are also disproportionately affected by poverty, violence, and lack of access to healthcare and education.
